The new ceramic tile from ORO BIANCO HANDMADE TILES is an expressive alternative to clinker. With its industrial look, the sustainable and handmade tile collection is perfect for loft-style residential objects. On the outside wall, BRICK is designed as a high-quality cladding in horizontal or vertical format.

One tile in two versions with many sides:

BRICK PLANO presents itself with a plain surface. Depending on the colour, the glazed brick tile takes a different character: high-gloss, rich-coloured or matt. The straight lines of the collection bring out the best in classic brick patterns and expressive herringbone patterns.

BRICK NATURA, on the other hand, has an organic look and, with its textured surface, is ideally qualified for landscape architecture. The mixture of different selections and the play with contrasting colours are ideal for using the entire spectrum of design possibilities.

The high-quality collection of ORO BIANCO combines exclusivity and solid practical strengths: the ceramic tile, which is only 1.5 cm thick, can be installed in an uncomplicated and time-saving way. It is therefore also suitable for the construction of a thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). Other features: Brick is particularly robust, weather and scratch resistant as well as solvent resistant.

From idea to product

A showcase project are the bathrooms of the new boutique hotel Esplanade in Saarbrücken. The history of Oro Bianco Handmade Tiles is inextricably linked to the history of the hotel. The founding of the company was laid by the Zimmer family. The owners decided to give a heritage-protected house in the heart of Saarbrücken a new purpose. A classy hotel was to be added to the existing 2-star restaurant. The holistic design concept included the development of the sanitary areas. All commercially available tiles did not meet the demands of the hotel and the ideas of the owners. The idea of designing something of their own was obvious, as the Zimmer family owns a ceramics factory in the Westerwald.

Ceramic manufactory with history

Ceramic products have been created on the premises of the traditional m&r manufactory for decades. The focus is on the project-related production of special ceramics for facades. Each tile is handmade. The production is carried out according to the specifications of architects, designers and clients. Impressive façades from the manufactory decorate famous buildings, such as the legendary concert location K.B. Hallen in Copenhagen or the church of Blessed Father Rupert Mayer in Poing near Munich, known as “God’s ski jump”.

Three-dimensional tiles for interiors

The passion for the special material ceramics should also be reflected in the new bathrooms of the Hotel Esplanade. Together with owner Tanja Zimmer, the ceramic experts at m&r Manufaktur developed a design tile in 10 by 10 cm format. The three-dimensional surface creates an ever-changing interplay of colour, shape and shading under changing light conditions. The glazes for the tiles were inspired by the four leading colours of the hotel rooms – Framboise, Beige, Indigo and Turquoise. Thanks to their transparency, the light-coloured clay body shimmers through and creates a special effect.

The result: 16 elegant bathrooms that echo the design concept of the Esplanade Hotel throughout. The positive response to the interior tile prompted the Zimmer family to launch an entire line of tiles for the interior. To this day, the brand continues to develop. Oro Bianco Handmade Tiles stands for crafts.

The Paulus Academy has moved into its new building in the west of Zurich. The ground floor of the building is clad with specially formatted and glazed ORO BIANCO TILES.

The grid of the laying area provided for a 90x90mm tile. The dimensions differed from our tile from the collection and so the order ended up in our model room. A customised version of the tile was created, slightly smaller, slightly thinner.

With the completion of the new form, the glaze was applied. The glaze was to be fired with a high gloss in a specific NCS colour. A particular challenge was that the strong gloss should match the rest of the building with its matt plaster. In order to master this, our colour laboratory received plaster samples from the architects. The colour temperature, depth and gloss level of the ceramic glaze were adjusted in several stages.

The result is an animated tile covering in the entrance area. In relation to the building as a whole, the area is rather small. And yet it manages to transfer its effect to the entire building. That is what ORO BIANCO HANDMANDE TILES stands for.
